United Kingdom-based singer-songwriter Kadi Louise, 17, recently unveiled the music video for her debut single “Stranger.”

Louise has been keeping herself busy these days on her social media pages by posting song covers and is ecstatic to finally have her own original work out there.

The Music Bugle had the opportunity to chat with her about “Stranger” and more.

Music Bugle – What creative advantages do you feel come with being a singer-songwriter?

Kadi Louise – Probably mostly putting of my life experiences into a song!

Music Bugle – What inspired your single “Stranger”?

Kadi Louise – So, last year and in 2019, I was “friends” – if you want to say that – with somebody who made me feel pretty useless and she was just a toxic person to be around, mostly. Then, when the lockdown came, I realized I didn’t have to see her again because I was moving schools and I just thought now, I could call her a stranger and so I decided to write a song about it. I’m so happy I did because it’s the first song I made that I was proud of!

Music Bugle – How have you been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic?

Kadi Louise – I mostly think it’s been creating music. I couldn’t have in-person singing lessons and I couldn’t even make my debut single in the studio, which was very weird!

Music Bugle – Where do you go when you need an escape?

Kadi Louise – Usually, when I need an escape, I go to my room and I usually listen to music or write music.

Music Bugle – Who are you listening to right now, music-wise?

Kadi Louise – I am listening to so much different music right now, especially as we have the apps and opportunity to listen to artists during lockdown, but my top three right now are Ariana Grande, Baby Queen and Tate McRae!

Music Bugle – What’s something you wish happened more in today’s music industry?

Kadi Louise – To be honest, I feel like artists don’t get enough money and attention for their music sometimes. Recently, I heard about a singer who had a song on a Netflix show and only got 80 pounds for it, which I think is ridiculous after all the effort that people put into the music, but I do know it’s not all about the money and people just like to make music to escape or for fun.

Music Bugle – Away from music, what’s something people might be surprised to know about you?

Kadi Louise – I think most people who don’t know me in real life and only over social media would think I’m quite a confident person as I’m doing music and putting it out there. I actually have social anxiety, which affects me a lot and a few years ago, I would never have been able to do this!

Music Bugle – What makes you the most proud about where you come from?

Kadi Louise – I’m from the UK and I think something that makes you proud with the UK is how many talented people are here – for example, Rita Ora! Away from music, I’d probably say the NHS because what they do is amazing, the fact that we don’t have to pay for any of it and they just do so well, especially right now during the pandemic.

Music Bugle – What motivates you to keep doing what you do?

Kadi Louise – Mostly, my listeners on Instagram and also my parents, definitely. They’re always supporting me and I couldn’t thank them enough!

Music Bugle – What has been your biggest challenge lately?

Kadi Louise – I think the fact that I can’t go out there and do shows right now. That’s hard and I even can’t do busking right now because of lockdown in the UK, but I’m so grateful that I could put out a song!
