Jack Blackman unveils new single ‘Empty Beretta’
“Exceptional guitarist, sounds just great!” – ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris (BBC Radio 2)
“Sounds older and more careworn than his tender years should allow” – Acoustic Magazine
“Fantastic!” – Janice Long (BBC Radio Wales)
“At last! A brilliant young guitarist coming through” – Martin Simpson
Rising UK singer-songwriter and guitarist Jack Blackman releases his new single ‘Empty Beretta’ on all digital platforms now.
Accompanied by a video that matches the song’s dark and mysterious tone, the song captures all of the paranoia and strangeness of these times. The song was inspired by a late night conversion outside New Street Station, Birmingham with a character who seemed to come straight out of a Tarantino movie.
Jack Blackman is fast developing into one the most accomplished and exciting young performers on the roots scene today. He has performed his songs all across the UK and as far as the Mississippi Delta. Having cut his teeth in his teens, trading licks with such luminaries as Paul Jones and The Blues Band, Tony Joe White and receiving accolades from Martin Simpson, Charlie Parr and Dave Kelly, Jack is no stranger to blues, folk and rock and roll.
The release comes hot on the heels of a successful collaborative charity lockdown reworking of John Lennon’s 1970 song, ‘Isolation,’ which received a seal of approval via the late Beatle’s Facebook page. The recording, which featured 29 different musicians, including Nigel Clark from 90’s Britpop band Dodgy, was organized and produced by Jack Blackman and gathered nearly 50,000 views within its first four days on Facebook.
On “Empty Beretta,” Jack Blackman is joined by his brother Euan on backing vocals and keyboards, David Vaughan on drums and James Maguire on bass.
