Poland-based rock/metal outfit Disout recently dropped the lyric video for their single “Dissonance” and teased a new single “Blindness,” set to release on Jan. 11, 2021.

Disout are vocalist Derek Dolly, guitarist Mateusz Simiot, bassist Jan Nowak and drummer Artur “Artie” Wozniak.

The Music Bugle had the chance to talk with Wozniak about what the band has been up to lately and more.

Music Bugle – How did you guys decide the band name?

Artur “Artie” Wozniak – After our previous band split-up, we have been created in various combinations. “Disout” is a play on words from “this and “out.” “This” means our creativity and our approach to life. “Out” means the desire to be free, outside of this world. I think that this name perfectly represents the concept of the whole album and our music.

Music Bugle – What inspired the visuals for the “Dissonance” lyric video?

Artur “Artie” Wozniak – The inspiration of the video was lyrics from the song. They talk about the differences between two people and the fact that even though we are all similar to each other, we cannot come to an understanding with the other person. Most of the scenes were shot in an abandoned holiday resort. It is a very popular place in Poland for enthusiasts of abandoned buildings and ruins. The scenes from the video perfectly emphasized the atmosphere of the song.

Music Bugle – How have you been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic?

Artur “Artie” Wozniak – As far as the pandemic is concerned, it deprived us of the opportunity to play gigs – like many other bands, but creatively, we are active in 100 percent. We released a single, “Dissonance.” In a moment, we will have the premiere of another one and at the beginning of 2021, we will present our debut album. Let’s hope that we will be able to go on tour then.

Music Bugle – What makes you the most proud about where you come from?

Artur “Artie” Wozniak – Of course, Poland is a beautiful country! We have wonderful mountains and many other interesting places and most of all, we can be proud of many great bands from our country – Decapitated, Behemoth, Vader, Riverside and many, many more! It is wonderful that so many famous bands come from Poland.

Music Bugle – Who are you listening to right now, music-wise?

Artur “Artie” Wozniak – I listen to a lot of music! To be honest, I am a big collector of CD’s, cassettes and vinyls. Currently, I am listening to the last Killer Be Killed album. It is really great and the new album of  Dopelord. Yeah – I forgot to say about them before and this is another amazing band from Poland! As you can see, there are a lot great bands from Poland. In my player, for example, you will find music from soundtracks, Dead Can Dance, The Cure, etc., to extreme metal.

Music Bugle – Away from music, what’s something that people might be surprised to know about you?

Artur “Artie” Wozniak – Well, yes, everyone sees me as a drummer only and I think that certainly not many people know that I have dealt with herbal medicine in the past. It was related to my previous job. The second thing is that I am collecting more and more knowledge and experience as a video maker, but soon, I am going to come out of the shadows! (Laughs)

Music Bugle – Where do you go when you feel the need to escape?

Artur “Artie” Wozniak – This is a very good question! An obvious answer – to the forest. Then, I calm down and cut myself off from this world, which is running faster and faster. Basically, when it is summer, we go to the lake, to the forest, at any free time. Then, I look for inspiration and relax. It is also related to my memories because I spent my whole childhood out of town.

Music Bugle – Are you working on any new music at the moment?

Artur “Artie” Wozniak – We’ve already started to create new songs to be released on the next album. Besides, we have a lot of ideas and riffs. We just have to put it all together.

Music Bugle – How would you define the year 2020?

Artur “Artie” Wozniak – Honestly, it was a very hard year in both private and musical life. However, it was also very busy. Earlier, we played under a different name and with a different guitarist. However, he didn’t quite feel what we wanted as a band. Now under the name Disout, we play with the original line-up who wrote the material for the album. Let’s hope that soon, we will come back to the gigs and normal life.

Music Bugle – What’s a quote that motivates you to keep doing what you do?

Artur “Artie” Wozniak – Well, I’m not sure who is the author, but I like this one – “There are no impossible things, they are only unlikely.”
