FARMER DAVE SCHER Releases ‘SPEAK OF LOVE’ EP
Cosmic California Sound Healer & Multi-Instrumentalist Known For His Work With
BEACHWOOD SPARKS, THE SKIFFLE PLAYERS, KURT VILE & THE VIOLATORS & More, Delivers Four-Song Set Of “Intergalactic Honky Tonk”
“The song’s got a heart that has one hand in the glorious cacophony of Akron/Family and another cradled around his compatriots in Mystic Chords of Memory. Though the tethers don’t keep this one locked anywhere for long — a chorus of voices rises and falls, waves crash and circular piano swims around and around the song with a comforting cadence.” – Raven Sings The Blues
Farmer Dave Scher has a message to share, which is simply and succinctly summed up in the title of his four-song EP, ‘Speak of Love,’ out now via record label, Spiritual Pajamas and available exclusively on Bandcamp. Known for his work with bands like Beachwood Sparks, The Skiffle Players and Kurt Vile & The Violators, as well as, a cornerstone in the current “Cosmic California Country” scene, Farmer Dave shared the EP’s first single “Ocean Eyes” through a premiere at Raven Sings The Blues (listen / share).
“The four songs on ‘Speak Of Love’ are all woven with this one simple truth in both words and music,” says Farmer Dave. “A different state of consciousness awaits if you listen. Close your eyes and imagine.”
The story of the ‘Speak of Love’ EP starts some years ago when Neil Young appeared on television and spoke directly into the camera with a telepathic gaze and asked, “Who is going to stand up for the land? Who is going to sing for Mother Earth?” Multi-instrumentalist Farmer Dave took this as a direct call to action. Seeing an alternate future of a barren, scorched earth that was used and thrown away, he decided to introduce a different path into his music. After spending time with plant medicines in Peru, Farmer Dave came back to California, dispatched most of his earthly possessions to live in an Ojai commune, while he wandered the wilderness outside of Los Angeles and found his own cosmic cave to meditate and work out this batch of songs devoted to the act of love. The result is a Farmer Dave rave up—the modern California time traveler and sound healer singing healing songs while trekking down the coast co-piloted by Alan, his pet bearded dragon.
“I like to call this music intergalactic honky tonk,” continues Farmer Dave. “A phantasmagoric intersection of past and present where aliens dance with the Chumash and the Santa Ana winds still blow ancient spirits through the strip malls of Venice Beach.”
‘Speak of Love’ was recorded at Electric Duck, Kelley Stoltz’s studio in San Francisco’s Mission District, Earthstar Creation Center and The Dojo in Venice Beach and Golden Void Studios in Van Nuys. Along with sounds from the Amazon rainforest and cetaceans, Farmer Dave is joined by friends Kurt Vile and fellow Violator Rob Laakso, as well as, members of The Skiffle Players: Cass McCombs, Dan Horne and Aaron Sperske.
During a time when honesty is hard to find, Farmer Dave’s words speak an eternal truth, arriving at a time when his message of love is needed more than ever.
“Plant the seeds, brothers and sisters,” implores Farmer Dave. “The loving, dreaming kind.”
