On a quest to create authentic, true rock, indie/folk band The Gramophones recently unleashed the music video for their track "I Alone," taken from their sophomore effort via Electric Funeral Records.
Lyrically, it preaches overall positivity - to forget the past, believe in yourself and allow the good to come in the future.
The track was mixed/mastered by Edu Recife and features Rafael Mimi (Nx Zero, Trago) on the mandolin. Drummer José Monaco composed the song and also had a hand in directing the video.
The Music Bugle had the chance to talk with member Bruno Cunha about "I Alone" and more.
Music Bugle - What excites you the most about your musical style?
Bruno Cunha - The energy of the live shows, for sure.
Music Bugle - Who are you listening to right now, music-wise?
Bruno Cunha - Neil Young, Black Pumas, Caamp, Dr. Dog, Dayglow and Jamestown Revival.
Music Bugle - How did you decide the band name?
Bruno Cunha - I got the idea from a White Stripes song called “Rag And Bone."
Music Bugle - What inspired your single "I Alone" and did the music video come out how you hoped?
Bruno Cunha - This song was written four years ago, so is not about the pandemic, but it fits in 2020 very well, I think. It was a time when I was completely alone and I reflected on a lot of things in my life. It was a great time actually and the music video, I think it's awesome. It was made by our drummer J.
Music Bugle - What was it like working on your newer music?
Bruno Cunha - It was our best time as a band so far. We went to my house in the countryside of Sao Paulo, set up our instruments in the living room and just played live.
Music Bugle - How have you been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic?
Bruno Cunha - We were on a break from the band. Our last show was in 2017, so during the pandemic, we actually got back together and started writing new songs. For us, music-wise, it was a great time.
Music Bugle - Away from music, what's something people might be surprised to know about you?
Bruno Cunha - I brew beer and I own a bar in Sao Paulo called Goela Bar.
Music Bugle - What's a quote that motivates you to keep doing what you do?
Bruno Cunha - From John Lennon’s song, "Gimme Some Truth" - “I’m sick and tired of hearing things, From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics, All I want is the truth, I've had enough of reading things, By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians, All I want is the truth.”
Music Bugle - Where do you go when you feel the need to escape?
Bruno Cunha - My house in the countryside in Avare.
Music Bugle - What do you wish happened more in today's music industry?
Bruno Cunha - I really don’t know. We’re just focused on making our music, trying to keep it real and be ourselves.
