Dori Freeman To Release New Album Do You Recall This Friday, November 17
Video For Title Track Featuring Illustrations By Her Grandfather, Renowned Appalachian Pencil Artist Williard Gayheart Out Today

Dori Freeman is set to release her fifth studio album, Do You Recall, this Friday, November 17. The 11-track collection was recorded at her home studio in the historic Southern music town of Galax, VA, where she was also born and raised. It was produced by her husband Nicholas Falk, an in-demand drummer who’s recorded and toured with the likes of Hiss Golden Messenger, Seth Walker and Caamp, among others. Today, Dori shares the video for the album’s title track, which features illustrations by her grandfather, Williard Gayheart, a renowned Appalachian pencil artist and musician who’s been a major inspiration in her life.
“The song is a reflection of someone looking back over the years spent with their significant other. I think the video imagery captures that nostalgic, daydream type of feeling that the song evokes,” says Freeman. “It was especially meaningful to me to work with my grandpa who I’m really close to. He’s ninety-one years old and lives close by. His drawings appear on the walls and help create that feeling of looking back over the years.”
Dori Freeman has sharpened her vision of Appalachian Americana over five studio albums. From the country traditionalism of her self-titled debut to the amplified folk of Ten Thousand Roses, it’s a sound that nods to her mountain-town roots even as it reaches beyond them. Freeman continues creating her own musical geography with Do You Recall, the songwriter’s most eclectic and electric, record yet.
Like a counterpart to Ten Thousand Roses—the 2021 release that found Freeman trading the acoustic textures of her earlier work for a more expansive, electrified version of American roots music—Do You Recall nods to the full range of Freeman’s influences and abilities. She still sings with the unforced vibrato of a classic folk singer, but she’s more of a modern trailblazer than a throwback traditionalist, funneling her Blue Ridge identity into a contemporary sound that’s both broad and bold. It’s an album that both reaffirms her roots and reaches past them, exploring the sounds and stories that lay between traditional formats. Freeman does her best work in those grey areas, bringing her own color to a sound that’s varied, versatile and unmistakably her own.
Dori Freeman – Do You Recall

Her phrasing is an exercise in emotions, pulling back at just the right moment, pushing forth to build the tension, always drawing the listener near.” – Salvation South
“Eclectic and electric in equal measure, Dori Freeman’s ‘Do You Recall’ finds her reaffirming her Appalachian roots and looking beyond them, touching on old traditions and creating her own as her star continues to rise.” – Folk Radio UK
“Freeman’s mix of narrative-driven lyricism and genre-blending accompaniment was born from a youth filled with musical discovery.” – American Songwriter
