With Daylight Saving on the horizon, the sun will be out for less time and the days will be cut shorter, which in turn, can lead to “seasonal blues.”
We know it hits every year, but it still takes some time for our brains to adjust to this sudden shift, which can result in increased sadness, lack of energy, loss in interest of usual activities, oversleeping and weight gain.
The Music Bugle had the chance to interview Lil Dallas, renowned rapper and spokesperson for Healthy Life Recovery – an addiction recovery facility in San Diego, Calif. – about some tips to avoid seasonal depression, what was his hardest obstacle to overcome and much more, which you can check out below.
Dallas was incarcerated for 11 years and used that time to better himself and bounced back to drop ferocious bars that’ll positively affect the next generation. He was inspired by the likes of other rappers like Nas, Jadakiss and Dr. Dre.
Music Bugle – Do you consider yourself more creative during hot or cold weather?
Lil Dallas – Definitely in hot weather. I prefer the heat. It makes me want to go out and create.
Music Bugle – What’s your remedy for “seasonal blues”?
Lil Dallas – Just working out and staying consistent. Sometimes it’s hard, but I always stay active and healthy.
Music Bugle – What was one of your biggest goals you set for yourself this year and how is it panning out?
Lil Dallas – One of my biggest goals was to meditate more and it’s been going great. It’s something I’ve heard a lot about at Healthy Life and it’s very helpful to calm my mind and body.
Music Bugle – What has been the hardest thing for you to overcome, personally?
Lil Dallas – Accepting the fact that all my friends were never really my friends.
Music Bugle – How did you decide on the name “Lil Dallas”?
Lil Dallas – My real name is Dallas and I used to be the smallest person in the circle, so everyone would call me “Lil Dallas” and it stuck.
Music Bugle – Who are you listening to right now, music-wise?
Lil Dallas – I’m listening to mbnel and mozzy right now.
Music Bugle – It’s safe to say that your album ‘Finally Free’ is probably one of your most-known works. What was it like working on that and putting it together?
Lil Dallas – It was awesome, it was a journey. I’ve waited my whole life to just be able to get comfortable in a real studio.
Music Bugle – Where do you go when you need a break?
Lil Dallas – San Diego. The beaches are unbeatable.
Music Bugle – What’s a quote that motivates you to keep going?
Lil Dallas – Vision without action is a daydream, action without vision is a nightmare!
Music Bugle – What do you see as the next big step for you?
Lil Dallas – Getting a record deal. Shout out to Healthy Life Recovery!
