It’s more than music, it’s therapy.

Such is the truth for Nashville-based artist Athxna, who has made sure to miss no stages in 2023, as she announced some Virginia shows for October.

The year has treated her kindly, as she accomplished 161K views for her “JOHNNY” music video.

The Music Bugle had the opportunity to talk with the Nashville-based musician about what she has been up to lately and more, which you can check out below.

Music Bugle – What was the moment that made you want to become a musician?

Athxna – This might sound cheesy, but when I was five years old, I sat down with my grandmother at her piano that she eventually gifted me and we played Mozart. I felt like this was my life’s purpose, to play music.

Music Bugle – What were some sources of inspiration for your newest material?

Athxna – Some of the talented musicians that I aspire to be like influence me every day! Ella Fitzgerald, Amy Winehouse, Lana Del Rey! All of these women have influenced my music.

Music Bugle – What excites you the most about your style of music?

Athxna – How it touches people and the feedback I get is so overwhelmingly positive, I am so grateful that I have that effect.

Music Bugle – Who are you listening to right now, music-wise?

Athxna – Doja Cat, always! (Laughs) I’ve been getting back into my rock phase and have been listening to a lot of classical rock again!

Music Bugle – Does social media help or hurt musicians?

Athxna – It can do either, it depends on what you let it do to your mental heath. It should be used as a tool, but it’s hard to separate the emotional part; especially if you compare yourself to others and have unreasonable expectations.

Music Bugle – What has been your proudest accomplishment?

Athxna – Honestly, releasing songs has been an awesome accomplishment. It was a journey to get me to this point and I’m very proud of myself.

Music Bugle – Where do you go when you need a break?

Athxna – I like trying to visit my family in DC. Honestly, anything out of my home is a good place to start. (Laughs)

Music Bugle – How were you affected by the COVID-19 pandemic?

Athxna – I am very grateful of the opportunities that I had been given during this time. I worked from home and it was a blessing.

Music Bugle – What’s the next step for your career?

Athxna – Continue to expand and create! I really want to focus on Tiktok and make an impact!

Music Bugle – What makes you the most proud about where you come from?

Athxna – Being able to say I am a musician and working in the industry full-time, I know my grandmother would have been proud of me.
