Nashville-based country songstress Dawn Rix is still high on the momentum of her worldly-acclaimed single “Worlds Collide,” a testament to how hard she has worked to put female musicians on the map.

After the track helped Rix secure the Female Single Of The Year Award at the 2023 SSA Awards, she recently shared via her social media pages that more music is on the way and if it’s anything like “Worlds Collide,” great things are in store for her fans.

The Music Bugle had the opportunity to talk with Rix about her musical journey, past collaborations and more, which you can check out below.

Music Bugle – What was the moment that made you want to become a musician?

Dawn Rix – I would say it was what I was born to do! Wink, wink. However, as soon as I saw a performance by Barbara Mandrell on TV, I knew right then that is exactly what I want to do!

Music Bugle – What was it like getting to work with Billy Gaines?

Dawn Rix – Amazing! He is an incredible person and his voice is pure perfection and so angelic! It was an honor to have him join me on the duet “I Wanna Be Holdin’ You.”  Really, all I can say is wow! The chemistry and blend of our voices on this beautiful love song really made this song magical. We also released an official video and beautiful lyric video that is a must-see on YouTube.

Music Bugle – What excites you the most about your style of music?

Dawn Rix – I believe music alone excites me. I love it all! I sing about life, love and everything in between in hopes of touching the lives of others in an inspiring way. Music in itself is so powerful. As an artist, I am just the storyteller. Genre-wise, I have to say country music is where my heart is, but I do indeed love to rock out as well!

Music Bugle – Who are you listening to right now, music-wise?

Dawn Rix – My car radio dial remains on the classic country stations! When online, I listen to the amazing stations supporting and playing great new music of my fellow indie artists!

Music Bugle – Where do you go when you need a break?

Dawn Rix – My happy place – Nashville.

Music Bugle – How were you affected by the COVID-19 pandemic?

Dawn Rix – My salon business of 30 years closed, my band of 13 years disassembled and I lost so many friends and family to COVID. Financially, it was a huge hit in the gut and mentally, it could have been debilitating, but a lot of good happened! I dug my heels into music, was able to write, record and travel to and from Nashville often. I believe the pandemic put life in perspective and was a great time to reflect, refresh, recharge and focus on what really matters.

Music Bugle – What do you enjoy more – vinyls/CDs or streaming services?

Dawn Rix – The convenience of streaming services is fantastic, but I am a CD gal! Although, nowadays, our vehicles no longer have CD players in them, so thank goodness for other options.

Music Bugle – What’s something that people might be surprised to know about you?

Dawn Rix – I am a USAF Veteran. I proudly served as a Medical Service Specialist in the 167th Air National Guard in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
