| I have really struggled with social anxiety and thought I had gotten past it when contemplating whether to attend a New Year’s Eve party a few years back. The feelings re-emerged, which made me feel like someone had taken over my brain temporarily. “Con Man,” taken from my album, ASHES, out now, encapsulates one of the rare moments where I have written a song about my feelings in the moment, instead of looking back. When something negative happens, my first thought is to protect myself from going to that dark place I left behind years ago. The songs on ASHES centre around the theme of growth – growing out of toxic relationships, figuring out what you want in life, determining what it means to be treated properly by someone, or getting through a tough time and coming out smarter and stronger because of an experience.
