New York Philharmonic To Open
WE LOVE NYC: The Homecoming Concert, August 21
Part of All-Star Lineup in Central Park Concert,
To Be Broadcast Live on CNN Beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET
The New York Philharmonic will join an all-star lineup of entertainers on WE LOVE NYC: The Homecoming Concert in Central Park on August 21, 2021, celebrating New York City’s comeback after a challenging year marked by the COVID-19 pandemic. The full concert will be broadcast live worldwide on CNN, CNN International and CNN en Español beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET. It will also be viewable without a cable login on CNN.com and via CNNgo apps for Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Android TV, Chromecast and Roku.
Two vocalists will join the Orchestra, conducted by Marin Alsop. Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson will make her Philharmonic debut singing Nessun dorma from Puccini’s Turandot; tenor Andrea Bocelli, who last performed with the Orchestra in Central Park in 2011, will sing You’ll Never Walk Alone from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel and di Capua’s ’O sole mio. The Philharmonic’s set will be rounded out by Bernstein’s Candide Overture and a newly arranged New York Medley by William Ross.
