Swedish singer songwriter Fred Lee releases a new video for his single “You Were Anyone, But Not Anywhere…” a folk-infused song that brings everything back to the basics: a guitar, a small (almost non-existent), stage and a small crowd. There’s no need to pretend you are a rock star when your music is sincere and is not afraid to show your true self and reach to other people’s heart. That’s what music is supposed to do. So Fred Lee and the Restless decided to capture this feeling in a very simple, yet effective video to deliver this song’s message. Fred Lee (aka Fredrik Lindkvist), who has made himself a name in the Scandinavian hardcore punk scene in the past and now is presenting himself as an indie folk / punk singer songwriter at his debut album, comments: “I’ve done gigs for 500-1500 people, which felt incredibly cool. However, most gigs have been in front of a small, rather uninterested audience. On such occasions, your willingness to continue to create and express yourself with the music is tested, your willingness to be able to give everything even though the audience is yawning. I have loved such occasions, the hope of reaching out to one or two people gives me the strength to continue. This is what we wanted to capture with this video, and as the world looks now with the pandemic, there is nothing to lose. We’ll just wait until it’s time again, time to rock. In this video, my wife does the background singing and she’s been such a great supporter of my music. This is also the first song I wrote for Fred Lee & The Restless.” This song is the third single to anticipate his debut album release and follows the previous single and video “Devil’s Chokehold,” which captured the interest of many fans of the genre. Visuals seems to be almost as important as the music for Fred, who released a video that emphasize the importance of story telling in his artistic communication. Fred Lee says about “Devil’s Chokehold”: “My friend Henrik and I went through the lyrics to the song and tried to find a story. It’s a little dreamy story about life rolling around like a hamster wheel, I end up in the same place and have to start over again. The chorus ends with “I’m not going back again, never my friend,” but no matter how much you want to get out of the Devil’s Chokehold, you always end up there struggling for air. The video was filmed in Holmsund / Obbola where we live. We thought the factory was nice as a background and we set the time for early evening when it was dark to set the mood.” WATCH THE VIDEO “Devil’s Chokehold”: https://youtu.be/AKk1WK-NejY Fred Lee and the Restless debut album “Sleepwalking in Daylight” is coming out in June via Lövely Records. ARTIST BIO: From fierce and dystopian hardcore punk to bittersweet folk rock, Fred Lee & The Restless is the result of Fredrik Lindkvist’s (Totalt Jävla Mörker) musical journey. His approach to songwriting is rooted in the darker spectrum of underground culture, yet expressed with colorful and heartwarming ambience. The result is an unique take on folk rock, defined by captivating lyrics and distinct melodies. Fredrik Lindkvist is mostly known as the lead singer and frontman of Swedish punk/hardcore band Totalt Jävla Mörker. Between the years 1997 to 2017, the band released four full-length albums, as well as four EPs and became well-known for their dark, bitter, dystopian sound and most often political lyrics. Parallel to the years in Totalt Jävla Mörker, Fredrik played drums in punk outfit Knugen Faller and guitar in indie-rock constellation Royal Downfall. Fredrik is the current singer of hardcore band RIWEN together with Johannes Persson (Cult of Luna), Christoffer Röstlund Jonsson (DS-13), Christian Augustin (Totalt Jävla Mörker) and Marita Mätlik. He’s also active in classic punk rock band Sista Brytet. ”I love punk, and I love how it has shaped me as an individual. The do-it-yourself spirit has always been there, whatever type of musical project I’ve been a part of.” Parallell to the years of screaming and playing in punk bands, Fredrik became more interested in singer-songwriter and storytelling traditions. With a love for Billy Bragg, Frank Turner, Brian Fallon, Bruce Springsteen and early soul music, a new set of songs started taking shape. During the Summer of 2019, on a long train ride somewhere in Sweden, Fredrik decided to do something with these songs. He came up with a band name, decided on who should be part of his backup band, and established a simple philosophy; honest music straight from the heart, that sounds live even when captured on record. Once he arrived to his destination, Fred Lee & The Restless were born. In the Autumn the same year, Fredrik and his backup band recorded what would become his solo debut album, ”Sleepwalking In Daylight.” With the help of mixer Henrik Wiklund and mastering engineer Magnus Lindberg, they recorded 10 tracks of honest, heartwarming and bittersweet folk rock. ”I hope that the people listening to this record realizes that I’m more than just hardcore. Maybe even get an insight into my life.” |
