Cardioid Drops “False Starts” Music Video

*The Following Press Release Was Issued By fiftyCC*

Cardioid premiered her “False Starts” music video via Atwood Magazine last week and is now available widely.

After releasing her Fantasy Metal EP last fall, Portland-based musician Lizzy Ellison knew she wasn’t quite finished yet with the song “False Starts” – or, perhaps more accurately, that it wasn’t finished with her. A propulsively visceral Fantasy Metal single about the ways trauma can linger like a long shadow across the face of a new relationship and about the ways love can heal our wounds, even as it threatens to break the world open, it kept growing in Ellison’s mind.

Collaborating with directors Derrick C. Brown and Stephen Lewis, Ellison resolved to expand the concept of “False Starts” through an allusive, mesmerizing music video, capturing the emotional push-and-pull of making peace with your innermost demons and desires – of continuing the tumultuous process of recovering from heartbreak while boldly embarking on your next chapter. “’False Starts’ is a surreal dream-like video where I’m dealing with the inner struggle of my female power, eventually drowning out the male expectations I have of myself,” she explains.

The “False Starts” music video is available on YouTube, while Fantasy Metal is available digitally on BandcampSpotifyApple Music and other major platforms. Ellison is currently crowdfunding an effort to bring Fantasy Metal to vinyl; for more information, or to back the campaign, visit Cardioid’s campaign on QratesCrystal Lattice Lullabies releases February 5 on all major platforms.
