Described as “a match made in synth heaven,” India-based producer Popcorn Kid recently unleashed the lyric video for his latest single “Free Forever” feat. LAU.

A blend of Popcorn Kid’s detailed production skills and LAU’s powerful vocals, the vibrant track also features a strongly inspired 80’s sound – a literal time travel experience for the listener.

The Music Bugle had the chance to talk with Popcorn Kid about “Free Forever” and more.

Music Bugle – How would you describe India to someone who has never been there before?

Popcorn Kid – India is a country full of vivid cultures and ethnicities. It is rich in history and traditions. As the famous American writer said, “India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend and the great grandmother of tradition. Our most valuable materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only!” One thing that really stands out as a country is that each state has its own story – in terms of language, culture and tradition.

Music Bugle – What excites you the most about being a producer?

Popcorn Kid – The best part about being a producer is being able to translate your emotions and life stories into something the people would instantly be able to connect to – music. The one thing that excites me the most is the journey of this translation of the emotions. There is always a story behind every song.

Music Bugle – What inspired you to put together “Free Forever” and how did LAU end up on it?

Popcorn Kid – I wanted to write a song which you would typically find in an 80’s action movie. Hence, I incorporated heavy guitars and synths in a way that would portray a sense of badass-ness. I felt that LAU’s vocals had the perfect tone and range for this song. I was really happy to make her a part of this project.

Music Bugle – How did you come up with the name “Popcorn Kid”?

Popcorn Kid – I’m a Popcorn addict. As simple as that.

Music Bugle – How have you been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic?

Popcorn Kid – To be honest, the pandemic hasn’t really affected my progress. Instead, this has motivated and inspired me to make new music for the people who are experiencing hardships during these times, hoping it would help them overcome any negative feelings.

Music Bugle – Away from music, what’s something people might be surprised to know about you?

Popcorn Kid – A lot of people might not know that I’m a law graduate – BBA.LLB Hons, a National Basketball Player and a massive foodie, even though I don’t look like one. (Laughs)

Music Bugle – What’s a quote that motivates you to keep doing what you do?

Popcorn Kid – “Hardwork and Obsession,” from Conor McGregor. Another was “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen,” from Michael Jordan.

Music Bugle – Where do you go when you feel the need to escape?

Popcorn Kid – I play games, play sports, binge on popcorn, watch movies, etc..

Music Bugle – What’s something you wish happened more in today’s music industry?

Popcorn Kid – Supporting musicians of different levels.

Music Bugle – What has surprised you the most this year?

Popcorn Kid – Signing to Aztec Records, a drastic increase in my fanbase, Spotify streams, etc..
