TOTENGEFLÜSTER: Metal Insider premieres video “On Carrion Wings” from the German symphonic black metal horde

Southern German symphonic black metal troop TOTENGEFLÜSTER released their sophomore album on October 11th via Black Lion Records. Titled The Faceless Divine, this opus is the most intense and darkest creation of the band to date.

As the final excerpt of the album, the band offered the video for the track “On Carrion Wings,” which got its debut via Metal Insider.

Vocalist Narbengrund Nihilis offers, “’On carrion wings’ is the opener of our third album ‘The Faceless Divine’ (apart from the intro obviously) and starts right away with a blast in your face! The song is subdivided into three thirds: a blasting start (the rise and fall of the protagonist), an epic and symphonic middle and a… Let’s call it ‘modern’ and rhythmic finale (the awakening or the revelation).”

Guitarist Totleben adds, “When I composed ‘On Carrion Wings’ I wanted to reach new ground with the Song, something different to what Totengeflüster did before. Sure, we still use our iconic Sound but it still feels like a new territory which feels fresh and sophisticated. Producing the Video to it was a great step forward and an opportunity for us to show how we have grown in the last time. One step follows another and I think we did a big step in the right direction. Supported by a great crew and especially Karoline Hanna from Rock in Raw Photography and her Camera Assistant Tobias Marr we got the Quality we were aiming for. The location also represents the feeling and atmosphere of the written and performed music in the best way I think. Editing the Video and making sure this Clip delivers the message and feeling was let me say … ‘a joyful challenge.’ I’ve learned a lot and I’m very proud of the result.”

TOTENGEFLÜSTER was propagated by Totleben (guitars) and Narbengrund (vocals) in the year of 2007 with the goal to create a coherent and sophisticated piece of art. Frostbitten — an already well-respected drummer in the death metal underground — soon joined Totengeflüster as the live and session drummer, and later positioned him as the permanent drummer.

Their 2012’s self-released debut album, Vom  Seelensterben, thematizes the cruelty and the horrors of the night or of the human nature. The success of this conceptual album enticed the band to present their darkness upon stages around the world. A permanent bassist and a new guitarist joined the rank to usher a new era of the band, to bring the theatrics to the big stage. Since then, the Swabian Jura based quintet have rapidly been mesmerizing the live audiences with their symphonic black metal craft. The band celebrated their 10-year anniversary with the acclaimed sophomore album, Im Nebel der Vergänglichkeit (Into the Mists of Transience), in 2017.

Armed with their new opus The Faceless Divine, Totengeflüster are now ready to spread their symphonies of death and desolation once again. Combining the coldness and anger of black metal with the cinematic and versatile elements of classical music, the third full length unearth a cold gray atmosphere that perfectly justifies the meaning of the band’s moniker: Whispers of the Dead.
