Recently, Metal Assault Records announced Orange, Calif. old-school heavy metal group Tyranis as the first confirmed band for Metal Assault Mixtape Vol. 1, the label’s brand new compilation project slated for an Aug. 9 release.
As the compilation’s name suggests, it’ll be released on cassette tape as a limited edition, but every purchase of the cassette tape will be accompanied by a free digital download of the entire compilation. The finished full-length compilation should include approximately 12 bands and run about 60 minutes total.
Tyranis consists of Adam Duncan, Adam Capilouto, Eddie Westre and Frank Cabrera. Regarded as stalwarts of the Los Angeles/Orange County regions for the last 15 years, they’ve managed to keep things fresh whether it’s on stage or in the studio.
“Keeping a band together – actually, just finding any group of musicians to gel with is very difficult,” said Duncan. “I know plenty of amazing musicians that don’t have the privilege that I have as far as just finding someone who you can gel with. As far as this lineup we have right now, it’s been dormant, but a lot of it is just the passion of playing music. I mean I consider myself lucky to be able to have a group of musicians that I can get together with a couple of times a week and actually have that outlet.”
The track “Scarred For Life” will be exclusive to Metal Assault Mixtape Vol. 1. Praised for its fast, rampant tempo, it should fit in with the rest of the compilation.
“I guess that one is just a very aggressive song and just kind of fit the [modus operandi] for Metal Assault as a whole,” said Duncan.
Tyranis looks to promote their vinyl pressing on the road, get back into the studio by late August/early September and crank out another album to come out early next year.
“We were dormant for a little while but yeah, we’re just coming full force,” Duncan said. “We’re gonna be cranking out a ton of tunes and there’s gonna be plenty to listen to.”
