FEMALE FRONTED CHICAGO TRIO, CHICKEN HAPPEN, ANNOUNCE EXPANSIVE FOURTH FULL-LENGTH ALBUM

PRODUCED BY CHRIS SUTTER (MEAT WAVE)

CHICKEN HAPPEN IV OUT NOW

FFO: Japanese Breakfast, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Speedy Ortiz

Female-fronted power trio, Chicken Happen, have been captivating the Chicago rock scene since 2011 with their fat riffs and catchy hooks. Lilly Choi is a powerhouse vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with the versatility to hit you deep in your feels or get your head bangin’. Her keyboard and guitar riffs are held down with the support of longtime friends and bandmates Zack Hjelmstad (bass) and Mark Gianforte (drums). Not conforming to one particular sound, this genre-bending rock group creates music that has real heart. After patiently cultivating their sound and musical abilities over the years, they’re ready to break out onto the scene and captivate your eardrums with the release of their fourth album, Chicken Happen IV, out now.

It’s their first album featuring keys as the lead instrument, played by Lilly Choi, who grew up playing classical piano, and features guest vocals and guitar from longtime friend Chris Sutter (Meat Wave, Truman & His Trophy) and was recorded by Joe Gac at Kildare Studios in Chicago.

“Chris helped us shape each and every song by offering new ideas, sounds and even genres we hadn’t explored  – he really took the hands-on approach that we were yearning for. We recorded vocals one-on-one over a year in a very intimate setting and I am forever grateful to him for that process. We had so much fun and it was such a treat to watch him do what he does best, magical really. Chris’s exploration and experimentation on the spot is what I think ultimately makes the album as good as it is.”

Over the years, Chicken Happen have shared the stage with Lydia Lunch, Lung, Meat Wave, The Brokedowns, No Men, Devon Kay and the Solutions, Greenlights, Ovef Ow, Drilling for Blasting and BADWOLFF.

“This album has been all about collaboration and exploration. It was a grandiose idea to write an entire album of piano songs, but we were in the right place at the right time and the songs kind of wrote themselves. I was in a deeply self-contemplative place when writing these songs and I really wanted to break free from all expectations I felt from others and myself. These songs draw a lot of inspiration from R&B and are some of the most vulnerable songs I’ve ever written.” – Lilly Choi
